1. 門前町ってなに？ / What Is a Monzenmachi?

門前町（もんぜんまち）とは、お寺や神社の門前に広がって発展した町のことです。多くの参拝客を迎えるため、食事処や宿屋、お土産店が集まり、にぎやかな町並みが生まれました。

A monzenmachi is a town that developed in front of a major temple or shrine. As pilgrims gathered, shops, inns, and restaurants grew around the entrance, creating a lively and welcoming area.

2. どうして生まれたの？ / How Did Monzenmachi Begin?

昔は、参拝のために長い道のりを歩く人が多く、途中で休んだり、泊まったりする必要がありました。そこで、参道沿いに自然と商いが集まり、町として発展していったのです。

In the past, pilgrims often traveled long distances on foot. They needed places to eat, rest, and stay overnight, which led to the natural development of towns along the approach roads.
